A Poser

What is it about a certain blog that makes you want to keep returning for more? Is it that you get hooked onto its certain saccharine style and keep returning for quenching that addiction. Or is it the sheer unpredictability of certain blogs that lets your curiosity keep getting the better of you. Do you think that a blog that use a set pattern and has a certain style running through all its posts will score higher on hits or will people keep returning at a blog that rather tends to shock (or pleasantly surprise) with varied styles and topics?

my two cents on this..
i think i read blogs which are have some quirky witty touch to them. which can take up mundane topics and make them interesting :) its all about how you write more than what you write. some seriousness is good, and important..but not all the time. .
what kind of blogs do u read?

Predictability works for me! If a blogger usually writes witty and shallow stuff, I wouldn't like her to suddenly post a long philosophical post.

I think each person has its own style and ideas which makes every blog different from others. I prefer blogs to throw in humor now and then....

exception: Totti's blog...although I realise its useless and utter waste of time, I frequent it the most !!

*wondering what caused you to write this post....*

Anyway, I think the reason I follow the blogs that I do, is because somewhere I identify with the blogger as a person. So even if I dont really know them, I begin to like them, and that is why I read whatever they have to write.

If I just read blogs for poetry or humour... c'mon, I could go buy books by worthy writers to satiate that appetite. No, I dont read blogs just for specific types of content.

Hey, I am a product of pop culture. Give me crap -- I'll find it interesting for a few seconds and then, move on to a different crap.

I agree with Casa about being able to identify with the blogger. I need to be able to understand where that person is coming from even if I don't agree with his/ her views. I love blogs that have humor, that are sensitive and that touch my heart.

never dwelled on that thing.i like reading a few light things with much more personal touch.I think sincerity kind of rings through most of the blogs.Except, of course, pointys!!

A blog could be about anything..my interests are wide, so what the person writes about really doesn't matter. Its the style that matters.

.....and totti, that was a mean swing (cheap potshot) at pointys writing. Dude, he complimented your blog. Atleast be polite. I like pointys blog. Especially how he tries to insert random PJ's (usually those that he already has told us a million times) into whatever he writes. Its predictable, but fun.

Conducting an opinion poll? ;-)
Will we see the results reflecting on your future posts? :-))
Jus'Kidding.
I return to a blog for variety. It should offer new things, sometimes good, sometimes bad. If you see more popular blogs like Sagnik's and waiterrant's, they'll offer new tidbits, new insights everytime. As they live the days, they jot down their thoughts. you gotta be an automaton to think the same all the time.

@ligne Humor works for me too, some kinda sincerity should also reflect thru the posts for it to work for me

@janani A long philosophical post is a no-no for me too but i would rather see newer things in varied styles on a blog

@Point 5 Humor works every single time. Totti's posts have a certain unpredictability and hat is why to every new post of his

@Casablanca Just another one of those things that came to my mind while showering (yes that is where post ideas frequent me). You are belittling the bloggers by saying their poetry, humour and writing styles are not upto scratch, you wouldnt be returning back for more if you didnt like them wud you?

@ligne thnx one of my favs from one of last year's better movies

@Subash As a great man (read me) once said if you crap all over the place long enough sooner or later someone will come along to pick it up

@M cant agree with you more

@totti 'I like reading a few light things with much more personal touch' sounds like my blog :)

@Anarkist Style over substance? I am not so I agree
P.S. yeah i love the way pointy puts in effort to pen a whole story just to pass off his pj's to unsuspecting readers ;)

@Jinguchakka Your vote's been cast in the caudron :), I agree there's gotta be variety in a blog be in the style or the substance of the blog

i would have to agree with casa too!
i cant read blogs i cant relate to.
like i cant read profound and poetic blogs...(ull notice i never comment on ur poetry)
pata nahin...i like reality and humor mixed together!

why the serious song now? i like this one too :)

Point 5 said...

Anarkist, hopefully that will put some sense into Totti's brains...

C'mon guys, I dont write a story around a PJ..infact many a times I am totally unaware that I have slipped a PJ into my post..

totti said...

mudit - hypocritical compliments shud be dealt likewise (Potshots)

pointy - just like the way you don't realize that you have stolen someone else's PJ?

When would the PJ War end?? i wonder

Rohan Kumar said...

@Khizzy I have noticed :)

@ligne Just a quick flashback to the 90's

@Point If Mudit could provide brain implants that easilt totti's IQ wud have been hovering around the 100 mark atleast ;)

@totti Are the pj wars live at the p+ij yahoo group?

humor, variety, light stuff (not too serious), and sometimes philosophical stuff...not all the time...but if its like once in a while I dont mind.

I dont like bloggers that keep talking about the same thing over and over agian in different words...unpredictability is the best!

Rohan Kumar said...

@Mahima "wit, humor, originality, insight and the bloggers picture" I will take it as a compliment if I might, that you continue to frequent this blog :)

@Iturhs Unpredictability works for me too

I read all kinds of blogs... some depend upon the blogger as a person, some blogs I can relate to, others are pure fun and bring a smile to my face... Also, i read blogs related to my profession for all the gossip in my industry :) and then thre are blogs with pictures... I read those bcoz you always have an image to go back to, it feels more real, like reading a person's life, a person whom you knid of know... but not entirely. Its a mix really!

@Shivangi 'and then thre are blogs with pictures... I read those bcoz you always have an image to go back to, it feels more real, like reading a person's life, a person whom you kind of know... but not entirely' That's a very neat thought probably something that I have too endorsed subconsciously
